What is a CBCT Scan?
A CBCT scan is used to create a complete 3D image of your mouth in a 3D space. That means that we’ll be able to see where everything is placed in your mouth – including your teeth, gums, jaw, and nerves. Here are some treatments that CBCT imaging can assist us with:
- Wisdom teeth removal
- Placing dental implants
- Root canals
- Trauma
How Does a CBCT Scan Work?
The great thing about a CBCT scan is that it only takes 14 seconds to capture the 3D image! You will be positioned in the middle of the path of a motorized arm which will rotate around you. Once the 14 seconds are up, we will have a full scan.
Not only can the scan help with diagnosing issues – it can help with planning as well! We can use the 3D image to know exactly where to place dental implants for maximum comfort.
What are the Benefits of CBCT Scans?
Probably the most obvious advantage of using a CBCT scan compared to a regular X-ray is the use of a 3D image, but here are some other benefits that come with it.
- The whole process only lasts 14 seconds.
- They can be used for both diagnosing and planning.
- Both 2D and 3D images can be viewed at the same time.
- The images make it easier for you to see and understand.
